Two Heavy Hitters Take the Emmy’s for Voice Over

It’s the weekend of Emmy’s!

While you are still putting down your bets on who would win in the Outstanding Lead categories, you won’t have to wait for Saturday to find out the results for the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Few days ahead of the Sunday gala, the Creative Arts Emmy’s on their second year split the annual ceremony into two nights, giving away 96 awards in total for artistic and technical achievement in all the television program genres. The two-night event was held at the Microsoft Theater in L.A. The ceremonies will air on Saturday, 16th of September at 8:00 PM on FXX.

This year’s voice over awards went to two entertainment industry heavy hitters – Meryl Streep and Seth MacFarlane.

Meryl Streep took the award for Outstanding Narrator for her work on Netflix’s Five Came Back, The Price of Victory. She bested Muhammad Ali (Only One, HBO), Liev Schreiber (UConn: The March to Madness, HBO), Sam Neil (Wild New Zealand, Nat Geo WILD), Ewan McGregor (Wild Scotland, Nat Geo WILD), and Laurence Fishburne (Year Million, National Geographic).

Five Came Back, The Price of Victory is a documentary based on the book by journalist Mark Harris, Five Came Back: A Story of Hollywood and the Second World War. The documentary focuses on five top directors – John Ford, William Wyler, John Huston, Frank Capra, and George Stevens. It also features five modern day filmmakers – Paul Greengrass, Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, and Lawrence Kasdan, who analyzed the works of the acclaimed directors after they have served during the war.

This is Streep’s 3rd Primetime Emmy Awards, and her first as a narrator.

The winner of this year’s Outstanding Character Voice Over Performance is Seth MacFarlane for his multiple characters as Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, Brian Griffin, and Glenn Quagmire for Family Guy. It’s an Emmy back to back win for the creator of Family Guy, and his 4th win in the series’ 18-year history.

The 69th Primetime Emmy’s will telecast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles this Sunday, 17th of September on CBS. Host of CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Stephen Colbert will host the ceremonies for the first time.
